About Us

Hello! This is the official Website for the non profit theatre company, J.R productions. For those of you who don't know, this company was found by 2 high schoolers, Jojo and Russell, who had a strong interest in Youth theatre. We are a small company who is slowly growing show by show. We rely heavily on people like you to support us in our goals. We provide roles to the youth community and pride ourselves on respecting the importance of mutual respect. Though our actors may be younger than us, we at J.R know that they are still people with equally valuable ideas and importance. J.R is aware of the mental health struggles that are put on youth theatre kids, and we want to help. We strive to provide a healthy, loving, and EQUITABLE environment for everyone involved in our company, even if for one show. Thank you for showing your interest in us by visiting this website.

Our Story

We met in freshman year of high school, but we weren't really close yet. we had a mutual friend that introduced us and we would talk every once in a while. At some point in sophomore year (though we're not really sure when) we got incredibly close. We bonded over media. At one point in english class, the one class we shared together, we got assigned the play 12 Angry Jurors to read. We read it and loved it. "We could do this" we joked. Then it stopeed being a joke. "If we WERE to do this, how would we?" we started planning rather than suggesting.

Our first idea was to go through the school but it didn't work out, and we felt stunted in our freedom. Respectfully, we moved on and looked for other theatres. During this time, we had also planned our first fundraiser, a bake sale at a local church. After seeing the amount of support we got from the local community, we became redertimined to make our project for our community rather than for school.

We were very lucky to find Workhouse Arts Center, a local non profit center for art that agreed to let us do our play at their theatre. From there, it was a lot of figuring stuff out. We wouldn't have had the experience in time if it weren't for our art school, Colgan. We quickly got into the groove of our own directing style, design asthetic and sense of community. We became so proud of the tiny community we had built with our actors. The environment, for us, was nothing like any other theatre we had been in. Even our actors agreed it was so pure and free of any toxicity, something we were so proud of. When we put on the show, it was absolutely wonderful and had amazing community feeeback. Our actors were amazing and nothing brought us more joy then watching them be so determined to bring our combined dreams to life.

Since then, we have been so ready to do more and more. We love the feeling of showing the community something so special to us, and plan to continue for as long as we can.
